“The politicians must intervene.” Says “Save the Children’s” General Secretary Mimi Jacobsen.

The P rime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen is looking into the case about the secretive sect of Jehovah's Witnesses that has been described in articles of the Ekstra Bladet last week. This also is the opinion of the General Secretary of “Save the Children” which was shaken by the headlines in Ekstra Bladet s tori es when two women stepped forward and told how they were sexually molested by members of the sect.

Last year when I heard the P rime Minister’s new year’s speech to the nation, he said that no one in Denmark should bend to will of religious fanatics, I was thinking about Jehovah's Witnesses, says Mimi Jacobsen. I know full well that Anders Fogh Rasmussen was thinking about people with different surnames from the normal Danish, but that doesn’t matter to me. Members of Jehovah's Witnesses do in my opinion go far beyond their children’s rights, for example when they deny them blood transfusions. We in Save the Children have started collecting s tori es about children whose parents are members of Jehovah's Witnesses and Ekstra Bladet’s s tori es are unfortunately another piece of evidence how secretive the sect is.

Above the law

“No one in Denmark should put themselves above the law, in my opinion this is what Jehovah's Witnesses do when they deny their children a blood transfusion. So we can be talking about manslaughter if a child could have been saved if it was allowed a transfusion,” continues Mimi Jacobsen. “It is very sad, that Jehovah's Witnesses try to keep their children in the dark, that’s why it is good that some has the courage to step forward and tell us what they have been subjected to. I have discussed this with my staff in Save the Children, what we can do, and I hope that the politicians also wake up, so that as the P rime Minister stated don’t have to subject ourselves to religious fanatics,” says Mimi Jacobsen.
