Mind Control Research in Jehovah's Witness Publications
In the seven years (1983-1989) that Holly Berry was being abused by her father, the major Watch Tower publications (WT, Awake!, Kingdom Ministry, and all small books) mentioned the words, obey, obedience obedient, submissive 1041 times.
During those same years and in the same publications, the words, "discipline, reproof disfellowship, disfellowshipping, disfellowshipped" were mentioned 793 times.
During those seven years and in the same publications, the words, "overseers, elder, elders" were mentioned 2453 times.
During those seven years and in the same publications, the word "reproach" was mentioned 118 times.
In 1981 the November Kingdom Ministry, note the article "Remember Those Who Are Taking The Lead" scroll down until you see a subheading, "Our Submission and Obedience." In paragraph #5 there are two thoughts:
"cooperate with those taking the lead" and "...obediently submit to their direction."
Hebrews 13:17 is quoted some 46 times in the same WT literature as mentioned above in the seven year period.
Flock book has a heading: "Elders Are Teachers and Judges" on p. 61 on electronic version.
WT of Sept. 15, 1989, page 22, par. 8 & 9. Par. 9 states, "Jehovah would be displeased if we failed to be obedient and submissive to Christian overseers." You could say, JWs major journal stated in Sept of 1989, that "God" would be displeased...
Same WT as above: Page 25, par 23, last sentence: "...let us always be obedient to those privileged to take the lead among Jehovah's Witnesses."
WT of Dec. 15, 1989, page 24, par. 15: We should respect the appointed elders who take the lead in the congregation, so that they do not have to sigh with distress over our lack of cooperation. Our failing to be submissive would prove burdensome to the overseers and would result in our spiritual harm.
WT of Dec. 15, 1989, p. 20, "The important thing was to obey God's clear commands, including those coming through the Christian congregation."
WT of Sept. 15, 1989, page 20-22, "Be obedient to those taking the lead".
Jehovah would be displeased if we failed to be obedient and submissive to Christian overseers.
INSIGHT Vol. 2: page 522, par 5: As head of the Christian congregation, Christ Jesus delegates authority to others, as he did to the apostles.
These persons convey the instructions of the congregation's Head, and therefore obedience to them is right and necessary..."
WT April 1, 1988 page 30, "Since those in responsible positions are appointed by the operation of holy spirit and they base their counsel and admonition on the Word of God, we can be sure that obeying duly appointed authority in the Christian congregation is appropriate. Heb. 13:17

WT Sept. 15, 1988, p. 28, "Christians - Firm Yet Flexible" This is not
a direct quote but meant that in Corinth, by airing their problems before unbelievers, they brought reproach upon the congregation.
WT Jan. 15, 1987, page. 29, Divine Peace Convention. Assembly talk, "...all of us should want to show appreciation for the appointed elders by being obedient and submissive as we are counseled at Heb. 13:17.
WT June 15, 1987, p. 18. "Sifted Out" by not being obedient and submissive to organization improvements.
WT Jan 1, 1986 page 30. We will not balk at his requirements even those that may appear to us to be overlyi restrictive. We will readily accept his arrangements for maintaining peace and unity in the congregation and within our own families. Same WT, page 29, Diving Peace Assembly. Surely, all of us should want to show appreciation for the appointed elders by being obedient and submissive.
WT June 1, 1986, "Carefully Following the Orders of the King" "They
[elders] work hard at serving you and others. They may have to discipline some individuals when the orders of the King are ignored or violated."
WT Nov. 15, 1985, p. 26, "Submitting to Kingdom authority means following Bible principles and being submissive to those appointed to take the lead among us." And page 27. "Elders, take your shepherding responsibility seriously - and may all sheeplike ones cooperate fully with the undershepherds appointed by Holy Spirit.
WT Sept. 1, 1983, p. 26. "Remember Those Taking the Lead Among You."
"Let us show submissiveness to the theocratic arrangement and respect for the elders.
WT Sept. 15, 1983, p. 27. We can't get along without Jehovah's organization.
In WT by Sept. 1, 1997, p. 16, elders were being called "glorious ones."
