A foster mother was found guilty today of subjecting three young children to a "horrifying catalogue of cruel and sadistic treatment".

Eunice Spry, 62, routinely beat, abused and starved the youngsters in her care over a 19 year period. The devout Jehovah's Witness forced sticks down their throats and made them eat their own vomit and rat excrement.

The Jehovah's Witnesses religious organization is rightly credited with establishing important free speech precedent in the United States. Among other landmark cases, the organization secured decisions recognizing the right to avoid having the government force one to say the Pledge of Allegiance, in West Virginia Board of Ed. v. Barnette, and recognizing the right to peaceably proselytize in Cantwell v. Connecticut. The recent documentary "Knocking" focuses on their contributions in this arena.

Coffee County - Two former members of the Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses filed suit against the church and its leaders for damages associated with their expulsion from the organization. The defendants filed a Tenn. R. Civ. P. 12.02(1) motion to dismiss their complaint on the ground that civil courts do not exercise jurisdiction over internal church matters. The trial court denied the motion. On interlocutory appeal, we hold that the trial court should have dismissed all of the plaintiffs’ claims because they are barred by the First Amendment’s protection of purely religious matters from interference by secular courts.

The article below highlights the second Canadian Jehovah’s Witness Elder that has been convicted of molesting children. It is interesting to note that the JW Branch Office in Canada has made public statements that child abuse is not covered up. In 1988 a letter was written to all Elders in Canada stating that any hint of abuse must be reported.

Silentlambs was happy to assist with this case as they have many others. Once again another JW elder is stopped from having access to children under the current policies of Jehovah’s Witnesses that protect pedophiles. Many Jehovah’s Witnesses have stated to the public that the policy has changed and children are no longer in danger. This article provides proof once again that nothing has changed. As the elder stated, “Two eye-witnesses are required to believe a child’s allegations.”

It appears Brother Verse forgot he was a sex offender and decided to take a 14 year old boy alone with him in field service. Thankfully local law enforcement were able to remind him of his past history of raping 14 year olds and why this was in violation of his parole. What were the 14 year-old's parents thinking?

The heading above is the title of the recent tract distributed by Jehovah’s Witnesses. The worldwide campaign started on October 16, 2006 and ended on November 12, 2006. The tract known as KN 37 (Kingdom News 37) focused on several “traits” that would be manifested by “false” religion that included various doctrinal issues along with a key statement on morality. Note the excerpt below,

Taking advantage of his responsibility at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses as an elder, he molested the girl six years ago when he and the child were in the door to door canvassing work of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a task peculiar to this religious movement.

The news article below once again provides evidence of how the “two eye witness” principle works with Jehovah’s Witnesses. When a child molester is accused and denies the charge he remains an innocent man in the view of the congregation. Only when a second child is molested and in a current time frame, then can the elders proceed to take actions against him. In this story the perpetrator turned him self in and this no doubt was at the direction of the local elders. If the confidential files of the congregation were accessed there would be a strong possibility that the first victim was silenced and thus had to wait till the second child was molested. The confidential files in each congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses contains the record of thousands of cases of silenced children that have been molested and never reported to police due to waiting for a second eye witness to come forward.

The most common comment when Jehovah’s Witnesses are asked about the child abuse scandal in their religion is that, “We have fixed the problem.” News articles like this show that in fact to be a lie. The key issue remains that abuse has and continues to be covered up while victims are silenced by the religion. In Canada where this story occurs it is national law that all abuse is required to be reported. To cover themselves legally the Canadian home office of JW’s wrote a letter to all bodies of elders stating that fact. Yet in the documentary that was filmed in Canada, home office insiders revealed that abuse was routinely covered up when elders reported it to the home office.

When members that molest children are allowed to spend thirty years in “good standing” while having access to additional children to molest it appears to answer the question above. We applaud the brave actions of the two brothers that stood up and prosecuted this pervert. By their actions they have protected other children from interaction with this criminal. We are honored to know silent lambs that are silent no more and take decisive action to stop those that hurt children. How many children this man hurt we may never know and no doubt there are many confidential files in this man’s congregations that identify the possibly many victims he has hurt, while the elders were silent and “waiting on Jehovah” due to Watchtower Policy on protecting child molesters.

The recent court rulings in NAPA California have given authorities the right to access congregation judicial files that contain any information that provides evidence of the crime of child abuse. Yesterday silentlambs received a report from California. A Jehovah’s Witness on the internet revealed that “the elders in their family were very angry as they believed their religious rights were being taken away.” They also went on to reveal “the elders were destroying the records in the NAPA Congregations” to stop the judicial system from accessing material that might further convict Jehovah’s Witness child molesters.

Recent decisions in California Courts have ruled in favor of abuse survivors in that state. The Legal Department lawyers of Jehovah’s Witnesses have fought with filing after filing trying to claim “clergy penitent privilege” with information that would lead to the possible conviction or implication of further crimes against children by Jehovah’s Witness child molesters. The secondary issue regards civil damages brought upon victims due to negligence of church officials in not reporting allegations of child abuse putting additional children in danger.
